Under New York’s Penal Law 35.15, a person is allowed to use physical force when they reasonably believes physical force is necessary to defend themself or a third person from what they reasonably believe to be the use or imminent use of unlawful physical force by another person.

Under New York Penal Law 35, your use of force is justified and is not a crime when such it is necessary as an emergency measure to avoid an imminent public or private injury which is about to occur.
