Bus Crashes Into Bagel Store leaving passengers injured

On April 7, 2019, a city bus crashed into a Woodside Queens bagel store early morning at around 5 am, hurting five people. The Q18 bus was traveling on 58th Street near Woodside Avenue in Sunnyside just after 5 a.m. when a Honda blew “the red light at a high rate of speed and struck the side of the bus,” which then barreled into Bagels Plus on the corner, according to the cops. The driver of the Honda reported that he was making a left turn when the bus struck him. Police say that the bus collided with a Honda, then hit the building. Our Queens bus accident lawyers know that in this case both the car and bus are at fault. While the car may have blown a red light, the bus is equipped with air brakes which stop the bus as soon as they are pressed. For the bus to crash into a store, the bus must have been going extremely fast or failed to apply the brakes.

Fewer than 10 passengers were inside the bus at the time as per one of the witness. The bus driver was taken to Elmhurst Hospital for injuries to his wrist and ankle.  Two bus passengers were evaluated at the scene but did not need further treatment. No charges were immediately filed against either driver.

Our Queens bus accident lawyers know that when someone isinvolved in a bus accident, the consequences can be significant, possibly even more so than a typical car accident. There are more victims, more responsible parties, and injuries can potentially be much more serious because of the lack of safety equipment like airbags and seat belts. For that reason, you probably will want to contact an experienced, qualified New York City bus accident attorney to help you with your claim. A bus accident claim is likely to be very complex and you will want to have someone to help you to maximize your recovery.

Bus companies will usually have unique insurance that is more comprehensive than standard automobile insurance so that it covers all of the passengers. Our New York bus accident lawyers understand the special laws and requirements related to such insurance.

If you were injured in a New York City bus accident, there are strict time limits for you to protect your rights. You have 30 days to file a no fault application for medical benefit and 90 days to file a notice of claim or you will not be able to sue for your injuries. Our New York City bus accident lawyers with offices in midtown Manhattan have won numerous bus accident cases in the New York Courts.
